Our History and Heritage
Founded in 1973 in India, ICI Carbon Black (originally Palta Chemicals) began as a pioneer in furnace carbon black production. Over the decades, we expanded into specialty carbon blacks for high-performance applications:
- 1973: Company founded in Punjab, India – focusing on furnace black production.
- 1990s: Diversified into specialty carbon blacks for coatings and plastics.
- 2010s: Established U.S. headquarters in Dallas, TX to support global markets.
- 2020s: Continued innovation with patent-pending processes and expansion into conductive black technologies.

Innovation and Sustainability

After 50 years of R&D, we have developed a proprietary furnace black process (patent pending) that achieves ultra-fine particle structures for maximum jetness at cost-effective levels. Equally important is our commitment to sustainability – ICI is pursuing a net-zero emissions target by 2050, and all products are manufactured with lead-free, low-PAH formulations to meet global environmental standards.
